Pro Logs Top Tips: Lighting Your Fire
Step 1: Natural Firelighters
Place 1-2 natural wood firelighters on the grate of your log burner. These give a clean. reliable burn and avoid chemical smells. Make sure your air vents are open before lighting.
Step 2: Add Kindling
Build a small criss-cross stack of dry kindling over the firelighter. Leave small gaps between the sticks so air can flow easily through the pile - this helps the fire catch quickly and burn hotter.
Step 3: Light and Let it Take
Light the firelighters and close the door, leaving it slightly ajar for the first minute if your stove allows. Allow the kindling to burn strongly until you have a bright, steady flame and a glowing bed of embers.
Step 4: Add Kiln-Dried Logs
Once the kindling is fully alight, carefully add 1-2 kiln-dried logs. Close the door and adjust the air vents to control the burn. Kiln-dried logs light easily, produce more heat, and create less smoke and soot.
